Warranties

EQUIPMENT & INSTALLATION WARRANTIES
Warranties are a most important and many times over looked essential when purchasing security equipment and selecting an installer. For example, a gate motor should have a manufacturer’s warranty of 5 years, cameras & DVRs at least 2 years, installation (depending on what is to be installed) 3 months to a year. Your bottom line should always be “if a manufacturer or installer is not willing to warrant their equipment or labor, don’t use them.”

Many times we’ve seen communities pay for service and repair of existing equipment and labor charges that should have been covered under some type of warranty because proper records were not available. We suggest that a file be opened for each purchase with name of equipment, manufacturer and date of purchase, warranty information and maintenance records. We feel that your savings, both in dollars and aggravation, will be substantial.

PURCHASING TIPS
  1. Do your due diligence and thoroughly research the product, the manufacturer and the installer.

  2. When comparing prices or proposals, make sure that you are comparing “apples to apples”: the same product and the same or an equivalent manufacturer, both serving your individual purchase needs.

  3. Researching your installer to determine how long have they been in the industry, are they insured, do they have references, what type of warranties do they offer and, most importantly, are they service responsive.

  4. What solutions best meet the concerns causing you to look into a purchase? If tailgating at an exit gate is allowing cars to enter through the exit, look to barrier arms rather than spike strips to correct the problem. Do you need night views of an area? Be sure to use an IR or low-lux camera. The right equipment for a job will save money, time and headaches.
